The Youth Club have been on their annual canal boat holiday. We took a 69 foot narrow boat with Ria, Claire, Emma and Kate in the front cabin, Chloe and Kaylie sharing a double, Jane and Tony in another and Michael and Daniel in the stern cabin. The boat was called the Guildford Monarch.
This time we were travelling on the River Wey and the River Thames. We drove up to Guildford on the Friday afternoon and then set off and travelled through locks to then moor up over night. The second day we went on up the River Wey towards the Thames (losing two lock keys on the way!!) and on Sunday we entered the Thames at the big lock at Weybridge. On Monday we went to Hampton Court where we spent about two hours walking round and learning about Henry VIII, his six wives, and of course the different ghosts. We went round the maze and visited the Royal Tennis Court where a game was in progress. (Nothing like today's game).
On Tuesday we started back up the Wey and on Wednesday afternoon we went swimming at The Spectrum Complex in Guildford which everyone enjoyed. On Thursday we went shopping in Guildford in the morning and there was then the traditional 'Gala' dinner at The Parrot pub in the evening. Unfortunately Friday came ever so quickly and we were back at the boathouse by 9.30.am and home by 11.30.am.
Lastly I would like to say what a wonderful time everyone had (including Nutmeg - Jane and Tony's dog!) and luckily the weather was lovely all the time (unlike last year!) On behalf of the canal boat crew we would like to say a big 'thank you' to Jane and Tony.
