FINANCIAL UPDATE

It is a very busy time for the treasurer at present collating all the figures in order to produce the Parish accounts for 1997 in accordance with the new Charities Act Regulations, and my thanks are due to everyone who has submitted the relevant information to enable me to do that.

Recapping on information published previously in the bulletin, recent Retiring Collections are as follows: ˜ October, the Church Army, £138.29; November, the Church of England Pensions Board £139.30; December, The Childrens Society £168.45 (including 36.41 collected at the Christmas Eve Crib Service). The Christingle Service raised £180 for the same charity. £50 was sent to the British Legion Poppy Appeal. The collection at the Christmas Midnight Mass realised a magnificent £138.85 for general Church Funds.

The entire cost of erecting the new flagpole in the church grounds in memory of the late Flora Shotter amounting to £394.80 was met by donation.

I am pleased to report the Organ Fund reached the sum of £5,835.16 at the end of 1997 leaving a balance of £1,737.54 to come from the church fund reserves to meet the cost of the refurbishment work. Recent fund raising events include Madeline Lennon's sponsored swim (£75), coffee and cake morning at the Vicarage on 18 October (£72), David Palmer's Dash (£125.30), Craft Fayre, Cassette sales, the Duck Race and Smarties Scheme (details about the last two items appear elsewhere).

I mentioned our annual Church Quota figure in a previous article and this has risen to £31,796 for 1998 compared to £29,011 in 1997, a substantial increase to be funded.

To finish with an interesting fact, a recent church photocopier bill revealed 65,231 copies were produced during a period of 12 months!
