WHEELCHAIR ACCESS

Wheelchair ramp

For many years access to the church by wheelchairs and pushchairs has been by means of two wooden ramps which are placed over the steps whenever there is a service. These ramps have been extremely useful but are now in need of refurbishment. At its meeting on 26 February, the PCC agreed to replace these ramps with a permanent concrete ramp that would allow access to the church at all times. The computer enhanced photograph shows how this will be achieved without altering the entrance for the able bodied. Already the sum of £510 has been kindly donated to the project by the 100 Club and St George's Players. It is hoped that any shortfall will be raised from sources external to the church so as not to compete with existing fund raising. The installation of the ramp may be subject to the obtaining of a faculty, so there may be a slight delay before it can be built.

On a different subject, Havant Borough Council has agreed to install two litter bins in the churchyard. This will hopefully ease the problem of people leaving their sandwich bags etc. on the seats. These bins should be installed towards the end of April.
