MAY 1999 PCC MEETING

The new Millennium committee has met and several ideas were put forward to the PCC, most of them self financing, except for an illuminated cross for the church tower and digital bells, which may be paid for out of reserves but this is to be discussed again at another meeting.

The Fabric Committee reported that the lead flashing on the flat roofs at the back of the church might need renewing. The PCC authorised any extra work to be done.

The Pastoral Committee had organised a party for those babies baptised at St George's during the past year. 41 families had been contacted personally, 16 replied, 12 babies attended with mums, grandmas and a dad.

Mrs Mancz and Mrs Symonds are to attend a training weekend at Holy Trinity Church, London, in June in respect of the proposed Alpha course.

There is to be a "Hall Project" with a committee of ten members, chaired by Father Malcolm and including members of the congregation. Tony Rice-Oxley said the hall had suffered 90 years of neglect and, after receiving the surveyor's detailed and lengthy report (previously circulated to the PCC) he emphasised the poor state of the church hall, especially the roof, which has no felt underlining and missing slates, causing leaks. This will be a very expensive project to mount, and needs looking into seriously this year.
