A walk at Exton on a hot Sunday afternoon
Chris, Ruby and Candy, with Andrew and Pat
joined by the Vicar and
Tony for that
walk up the hill and reach the Beacon
which overlooks the
village of Exton.
The day was fine and the sun was quite hot,
but there was breeze that
helped such a lot
as we made our way over stiles and fields
to see the
fine views the climb does reveal.
When, at last we reached the top,
there was a wood, a delightful
spot,
it was here we stayed, to rest our weary limbs
and savour the joy
that achievement brings.
Down we went enjoying the view
that all this climbing brings to
you,
then on to Warnford and the River Meon
where the dog had a date for
a drink with a swan.
We then found the old Railway deep in the woods,
which used to carry
both people and goods.
But this has become a disused line
and for walking
and rambling it is just fine.
Along this trail of overhung trees
We found our way with the greatest
of ease
and then we came to a dry river bed
Which we walked along to see
where it led.
Here we crossed the Meon again
Meandering round the woods and
lane
Then across the road we quickly ran
and found we were back where we
began.
