Peter Baker Peter was born in London, but his family moved to Folkestone in his youth. He worked with his father at W.H.Smith the Booksellers for some years until he himself was appointed manager of the bookshop at Abingdon, near Oxford. He was married to his first wife Babs for 30 years and they had two sons, Patrick (who was sadly killed in a car accident) and Roger. He served in the R.A.F. during the Second World War as an aircraft engineer fitter in Canada and in 1954 he bought his own grocers business at Maidenhead which he sold about ten years later. He took a course in engineering at Evening School and eventually became a full time lecturer in 1970. He lost his wife of cancer and later on he retired to Homewater House in Waterlooville where he met his second wife Freda. They were married at St George's and both became regular members of our congregation. He died after a stroke and further illness. We extend our sympathy and prayers to his wife Freda and his son Roger in their loss. May he rest in peace and rise in glory. Malcolm Ferrier |
