ST GEORGE'S YOUTH CLUB

Day trip to the Christian Youth Enterprise Centre at Chidham

On Saturday 9th June, seven members of St George's Youth Club plus Tony Rice-Oxley, John Williams and Fleur went to the CYE sailing centre for a day which was crammed full of really fun activities.

The first thing that we did in the morning was kayaking. We each had a boat and went out onto the channel where we paddled around for a bit and then we had to line up, each holding on to two boats. We then played a game called cat and mouse where two people had to run across the front and back of the boats, but this time instead of Tony falling in and getting his legs stuck, Chloe and I both fell in the freezing cold water and then we had the task of getting back into the boats. Fortunately we were wearing wet suits.

After we had got back to shore we got to eat our lunch on top of the old minesweeper which is moored there and used by the Centre. The next session was sailing where we were put into groups of three and each group had an instructor. We were in quite small boats and when we got into the channel it was a bit like the M25 with boats coming towards us from all directions. We each got a turn to steer and sail the boat.

After a drink and a biscuit we were split into two groups and we had to complete a difficult assault course with all kinds of obstacles which contained ropes, tyres, and very high walls. Several of us ended up with burns and bruises. After we had done it in groups we split into pairs and tried to beat each others times! After the assault course had been completed by everyone we went onto the rock climbing wall where we had a couple of goes at climbing to the top and then we played a game where we had to run around the outside of the wall and when the music had stopped we all had to run into the middle and climb onto a bit of wall and if you were the last person onto the wall you were out. We kept going round until there was a winner.

By this time we were all very tired and ready for our supper which was served inside the minesweeper. We then had to rush back so that Tony could get ready for the barn dance. A great time was had by all!
