At the PCC meeting on Thursday 28th June, discussion again focused on our church's financial situation. The Summer Fête had raised £1,759 and this, in addition to a tax refund and withdrawal of savings, had eased the problem over quota payments in the short term. However, the fact remains that our expenditure exceeds income and that our giving per head is the lowest of all the parishes in the deanery. The TRIO (The Responsibility Is Ours) project - aimed at raising the rate of giving in churches - was again discussed, and copies of the project folder were distributed to PCC members for consideration before future discussion at the next meeting. Churches having used TRIO record improvements of between 25% and 60%. The feeling was that, if this was the only way to raise our rate of giving, then the project would need to be undertaken, probably with a launch date in February 2002. Special thanks were expressed to Christine Culley for organizing another Summer Fête. She is now standing down as organiser of fundraising events and a volunteer is urgently needed for the Christmas Bazaar. It was suggested that, since the raffle raises the greatest amount of money, the Summer Fête might be replaced in 2002 by a much larger scale raffle, to be drawn at a parish event such as the Barbecue. The views of the congregation will be sought. A copy of the full minutes is at the back of the church. Jaye Warren, P.C.C. Secretary The Vicar has since sent out a letter to all 200 members of St George's, explaining our position and requesting a minimum donation of £5 per week. We are hoping for a generous response at the beginning (August) of the weekly envelope year. MF |
