THE MEON IN FEBRUARY

Parish walk, Sunday 10th February

The skies were grey, the air was damp
As we set out for another tramp
Along the banks of the River Meon
Where it has run for many an aeon.

In Summer it's a meandering stream
With meadows of a wondrous green,
Today it had a different pace
As it swallowed all that barred its race.

But man had built a brand new bridge
So we could climb the muddy ridge
From where the view is mighty fine
And stood the test of tide and time.

We must return on a summer's day
To see this river, where children play,
And fields of buttercups and daisies
Where the lowing cattle gently grazes.

It was a lovely walk for the 10 of us
Of the mud there was plenty but not any fuss
As we made our way back over stiles and through wood,
For an afternoon ramble it really was good.

[The dog enjoyed it too, although she is no hippopotamus!]

Ruby Bullock

I hope we can have the next ramble on Sunday 17th March. Please see on a later bulletin.
