PCC MATTERS

Easter Vestry Meeting and Annual Parochial Church Meeting

Forty-one people attended the meetings at 11.15.am on Sunday 21st April 2002, chaired by Fr Malcolm.

At the Easter Vestry meeting the Chairman expressed thanks and congratulations to Mr Tony Rice-Oxley as he stood down at the end of his four years as Churchwarden. Mr Richard Spurgeon was appointed to replace him. Churchwarden Miss Lynn Winter has two further years to serve.

Prior to the Annual Parochial Church meeting, booklets comprising reports for the year 2001, including the Treasurer's Report and a summary of the audited PCC accounts, the Vicar's report, Churchwardens' report and the various section reports had been made available, and formed the basis of discussion at the APCM.

The Treasurer spoke about the high quota payments along with the decreased value of our investments and expressed gratitude to those members of the congregation who had loaned the church £13,000 to be repaid within a limited period when investments rise. She was pleased to report a £2,400 increase in tax refund due to maximum use of the gift aid scheme. The Chairman thanked Mr George Coleman who, for reasons of health, will not stand as Independent Examiner next year.

The total number on the new electoral roll is 175, a reduction of twenty on the previous year.

Mrs Winifred Mancz and Mrs Candy Williams were appointed to the new Deanery Synod for a term of three years. Five members of the PCC stood down and Mr Rod Dawson, Mr Bill Hutchings, Mrs Mary Hutchings, Mrs Wendy Pearce and Mrs Bronwen Wood were appointed.

The Chairman then went through the section reports, inviting questions. Under Churchwardens' Report Mr Rice-Oxley praised the fundraising efforts of the previous year, which cannot be repeated every year, but pointed out that our outgoings still exceed our income.

Thanks were expressed to all who contribute in the life of St George's in so many ways and the meeting closed at 12.30.pm with prayers and the Grace.

PCC Meeting

The new PCC met on 25th April, when Mr Spurgeon and the new members were welcomed by the Chairman.

Mr Spurgeon guided a discussion on clergy pay and pensions along the lines of a consultation document and questionnaire which had been circulated.

The Pastoral/Jubilee 2002 committee reported the good news that a Lottery grant had been received for the Family Fun Day on 22nd June. Plans proceeding apace.
