THE ENGLISH LADY

An English Lady, wishing to rent a furnished house in a German village in the mountains, and not knowing German, asked the village schoolmaster for help. On her return to England she remembered that she had not enquired whether there was a WC attached to the house, so wrote to the schoolmaster for particulars as to the WC.

Unfortunately he did not understand the initials, he consulted the Parson who also knew little English and came to the conclusion that this lady was a devoted church goer and wished to know where the Wesleyan Church was, so he wrote to the lady as follows:

"Dear Ladyship. The WC is located about seven miles from your lodgings in the centre of a pine forest, it is open on Tuesdays and Fridays. This is unfortunate for you if you are in the habit of going regularly, but you will no doubt be pleased to hear that a number of people take their lunch with them and make a day of it. As there are a great number of visitors in the summer, I would advise you to go early, the accommodation is good, there are about 80 seats. There is also plenty of standing room, and a bell will ring every ten minutes when the WC is opened. I would especially advise you to pay a visit on Tuesday as there is an organ accompanist. The acoustics are excellent even the smallest sound can be heard all over the building.

Hoping to reserve a seat for you next Tuesday. Your Pastor.

p.s. My wife and I have been unable to go for the last eight months, and it pains us.
