MOTHERS' UNION

The autumn programme of our Mothers' Union branch got off to a good start in September with a fascinating talk about the Amish people of North America together with a fine demonstration of patchwork quilting. Judy Jacob's enthusiasm was very infectious and made one almost wish one was young enough to try another hobby!

Unfortunately the afternoon had to be rather shortened to allow members to get to church for the funeral of Marjorie Cowell. In this last year we have had to say goodbye to three members, Joan Andrews, Roslyn Edwards and Marjorie Cowell (may they rest in peace and rise in glory).

Our October meeting included a report from a retired nurse about a nursing scholarship to North America. It was interesting to hear how the training of nurses in the late sixties in America appeared to foreshadow that in this country today. Some would say, "and not for the better either!"

Altogether a good start to our winter meetings. Why not come and join us next time.
