ONE WORLD WEEK EVENT

October 25th, 2002

The programme, which included music, drama, prayer and presentations was held in the spacious Barton Hall at Horndean Community School. Despite the wet night over ninety people attended, including members of the Youth Clubs of St Wilfrids Church, Cowplain and our own St George's young people. Some of the St Wilfrids youngsters performed a drama whilst Kaylie Allison and Jessica Spurgeon read a role play on HIV/AIDS.

Presentations with slides and videos were given simultaneously by Sam Goddard (CAFOD) on Trade Rules, Alison Matthew (Tearfund) on HIV/AIDS and Margaret Symonds on the Mothers' Union Literacy and Development Programme in Sudan, Burundi and Malawi. Visitors were invited to write prayers for their concerns for the wider world and to visit two out of the three presentations during the evening.

The programme ended with a short act of worship conducted by the Revd Rosemary Donald. Music was provided by members of the Cosham Baptist Church, who used an overhead projector to display the words of the hymns.

Various charities displayed and sold their products in the foyer, to the background of appropriate recorded music provided by Pamela Dinneen.

The evening was generously hosted by Horndean Churches together, who also supplied and served the refreshments.

Many people have indicated that they enjoyed the occasion and it is hoped that more of you will support it next year and learn more about the problems affecting our brothers and sisters in developing countries.
