It was fun at the auction. You didn't have to spend a fortune, though some of us did!! For a £1 you could eat about as much as you could handle and got a glass of wine. Some 40 or so (all Church members) gathered for the occasion and viewed some of the more tangible items on offer. In the main these were cakes, mystery prizes and many vouchers for goods and services. We started off in great style with many small lots going for amounts below £5 and some bargains being snapped up for a fraction of their value. Some items were hotly contested across the floor and very few items were left unbidden. The caravan for a week in Dorset raised nearly £100, and at half time we had raised just over £400. We had a break for half time refreshments, and tea and coffee were provided free of charge. The second half raised a further £490 and, together with the entrance money, just over the £1,000 was collected for church funds. We would like to thank those who gave lots (in more senses than one!), those who came on the night and bidded, those who came and helped on the night (runners, spotters, markers and the finance team) and the refreshment party. It is hard to believe it, but we need an event like this each and every year if we are to raise enough money to keep St George's afloat. |
