I do not know anyone who really enjoys change. Change is uncomfortable and unsettling. It involves doing things differently to that which we are used to. I am sure that I was not the only one who felt empty and miserable after the Wednesday Eucharist on the 30th July. There is no doubt at all that Father Malcolm's contribution to the worship, work and mission in the parish has been immense and we are all bound to miss him. Father Malcolm will be getting used to a change in his life, no parish responsibilities, services to prepare for or meetings to attend. There will be a period of adjustment for him and please pray that this will not be too prolonged and that he can enjoy a well deserved long and fulfilling retirement. An interregnum involves change, there is a change in the services that we are able to have. Change in the different priests who are visiting to help us. Changes for some in extra responsibilities. Change as we think about the Parish and its future and the qualities a successor will need. Yes, it is uncomfortable and unsettling but isn't the Christian life all about change? In Baptism we die to the old life and begin the new in Christ. We are surely constantly being changed as we aim to put God first and to serve others. (I make no apology in referring to my Book of the Month which I chose deliberately as it is so apt - see Book Corner on page 17). I pray we will all use this interregnum positively. Let us continue to be diligent in our worship, prayer and study. Just as importantly, let us all be determined to work together, to respect differences of opinion and to be open and honest with each other. Are we to be seen as an uninspiring, miserable lot, or vibrant, Holy members of the Church Family? We, as part of the Body of Christ in Waterlooville, need to continue the good work that has been started. There is still much to do. Let us rise to the challenge. With Christian love and prayers LYNN |
