PCC MATTERS

The PCC met on 3rd July for what was Father Malcolm's last meeting and much of the discussion focused on arrangements for the interregnum: security of the vicarage; home Communion; rota of duty priests; rota for church opening; editing and production of the Bulletin and the Magazine; diary for the presentation of the Eucharistic Gifts.

At its May meeting the PCC had discussed a statue of Saint Sebastian (designed by John Phillipson, the designer of the Cross and the Lectern at St George's) which was stored in the crypt of the Cathedral and was no longer on public view. The Dean was happy for the statue to be displayed in St George's and the PCC was in agreement. However, when the members saw the statue on the evening of 3rd July the majority found it inappropriate for St George's and they voted by 8 votes to 4 (with 2 abstentions) to return it to the Cathedral.

The Treasurer reported that the Finance Committee would meet soon to discuss the repayment at the end of this year of the loans advanced by members of the congregation.

Father Malcolm mentioned that his last meeting of St George's PCC marked the end of forty-three years on one PCC or another. He thanked all who served with him at St George's and wished us every blessing for the future. Mr Spurgeon, on behalf of the PCC, thanked Father Malcolm for his leadership, wisdom and prayer. He will be sorely missed but leaves with our warmest wishes for every happiness in the future. An enthusiastic round of applause followed.

There will be an extraordinary meeting of the PCC on Sunday 31st August after the 10.am Eucharist for a preliminary discussion of a draft parish profile. The next normal meeting will be held on Thursday 4th September at 7.30.pm for 8.pm.

The full minutes are displayed at the back of the church.
