Youth Club restarts on Friday 12th September after the long summer break. Last term was packed with all sorts of activities including our weekend break at Fordingbridge, a camping weekend at Glendene, a games evening in QE Forest, cycling, barbecues and fund raising. We raised monies for the Malcolm Sargent Appeal, and Naomi House, as well as for our own Youth Club funds. Altogether a very active term although it is a shame that the summer term is so short in length, yet the winter term so long, as there are so many more activities to do in summer than autumn. Once again we are indebted to Jane and Sandra who have turned out regularly each week to help and support, and also to those parents who come and collect at the end of each week's activities. We lost seven members during and at the end of term. Michelle and Bethan left midway through the term to pursue other activities and Chloe, Jess, Claire, Tim and Kaylie all left at the end of term. It is amazing to think that these five children between them have put in a quarter of a century of Youth Club attendance!!! Kaylie and Chloe joined in January 1997, and have thus each completed six and a half years in youth club which must be a record. Tim joined in April 1998, whilst Jess and Claire joined in January 2000. We are sad to see them leave but hope that the group planned by Jess to keep together past Youth Club members will be a success and we shall thus keep in touch. Happily we had a large waiting list so are able to accommodate all of these into a slightly enlarged youth club of some 25 members. We have continued to take part in the Church Service once each month with themes as varied as Christian Aid and Goodbyes at which we said our own farewell to our departing Priest Fr Malcolm Ferrier. Our autumn term will include Games, Quizzes, Bowling, Murder (a favourite), Craft, Drama and Ice Skating. We will also be presenting a play during One World Week as well as supporting the Taizé evening in church. Youth Club meets each Friday of term time at 7.30.pm after choir practice. It is open to all though priority is given to church families. TONY RICE-OXLEY |
