PCC MATTERS

The PCC held an extraordinary meeting on Sunday 31st August 2003 at 11.15.am specifically to discuss the draft Parish Profile and the qualities deemed desirable in our new Incumbent. A number of amendments were made to the document, and Richard Spurgeon was congratulated on his extremely well thought out and presented paper. It would be further discussed at the next meeting, on 4th September, when those absent on 31st August would be able to contribute.

On 4th September the PCC was delighted to hear that Dr Feri Eshraghi, Director of Morris Palmer, Chartered Accountants, had offered his services as Independent Examiner for 2003. I am sure the Treasurer will have written more fully about this and other financial matters.

But the main discussion again focused on the qualities sought in the new Incumbent. On this occasion it was quite heated, with some members of the PCC wanting to continue in the Catholic tradition and others feeling that St George's had become too Catholic and lacked the warmth and welcome attractive to families. One thing was never more true: you can't please all the people all the time.

The selection process requires two members of the PCC to be elected to be Parish Representatives on the interview panel. The PCC will therefore meet again on 23rd September to try to reach a consensus on this and on the type of Priest St George's needs. We can only pray for guidance...

The full minutes are displayed at the back of the church. The next normal meeting of the PCC will be on 2nd October and will be attended by the Archdeacon.
