FUNDAY AT WECOCK WITH FOUNDATIONS

On Saturday 26th July, I helped out at the Fun day, which was to raise funds for the redevelopment of the new community centre, which is now in the process of being built, along with the new housing project called The Oaks.

The aim of the Fun day at The Wecock Community Centre was to attract new members, and to let the public and residents know what activities the centre has to offer in the new year when the new centre will be better equipped and more spacious, to encourage potential new members to support this exciting new adventure of the existing centre.

Since I have been going to the Wecock Community Centre, back in April, I have got to know the people there, and it is a close family community, along with the centre administrator, called Anita, who has helped me a lot in understanding the computer, and Peter, who manages the Havant-On-Line office, based at the centre, and I have made some nice new friends, to which I am grateful for all their help.

My allotted task at the Fun day was to man the Balloon and treasure-Lucky dip stall, as this was the first time that I have managed a stall before. It was a challenge, as there were a lot of children to keep my eyes on, but it was an enjoyable experience and the day went well, as we all had a lot of fun, in a family way.

I bought a raffle ticket to help for the fund-raising, and as it so happened my ticket was the winning number to knock the brick out of the old shops in making way for the new community centre.

The event took place at 2.pm on August 5th, which was a very hot, and lovely sunny day. We had the presence of the Local Councillor Ken Moss, along with other members of Havant Borough Council, and building contractors who are leading figures in this building project.

At the appointed time, we all donned our Helmets and safety jackets to proceed with the knocking out the brick ceremony. I felt like 'Bob the builder' in my attire, as it lifted my spirits, after the sad event that happened to me in the recent past.

I was ceremoniously given a Mallet and Bolster chisel by the works contractor, and duly knocked the old brick out of the wall, with great delight, in making a contribution to a new foundation phase, which is happening at Wecock.

After the ceremony, and photographs, we were all treated to a lovely buffet lunch which was superbly organised by the Centre administrator Anita, and the rest of her team of ladies, who have worked very hard in the preparation to a delicious feast, with tea, coffee and squash drinks to follow afterwards.

The day ended well, as we watched the demolition derby squad move in to knock down the derelict shops, and afterwards, being chewed up by a mechanical dinosaur!
