ST GEORGE'S LADIES GROUP

Dr David Griffiths came to talk about our charity, BASICS, the British Association for Immediate Care, which we are supporting this year. This charity was formed in 1979 with the aim of providing fast expert medical help to accident victims. A group of general practitioners and hospital doctors give their services voluntarily providing 24 hour cover throughout Hampshire. There are approximately twenty doctors, who are called directly by Hampshire Ambulance Service, who receive around 500 requests for assistance at road accidents, industrial and sports accidents. They carry up-to-date monitoring and resuscitation equipment to give patients an improved chance of survival, the first hour after an accident has occurred being the most critical. These doctors respond from their own homes using their own cars and cover all their expenses. It costs around £15,000 to fully equip one of these cars and all the money has to come from fundraising. St George's Ladies Group hope to be able to raise enough money to buy a piece of equipment for one of these cars.
