2004 NEW YEAR'S DAY WALK

Once again the New Year was "welcomed in" by a gathering of 20 odd walkers, all regulars. We walk, wet or fine, meeting at St Faith's Church, Havant, and after the clock strikes 12.o'clock mid-day, we start our walk to the coast by way of the old railway cutting to Langstone Harbour. Here we stop for our packed lunch and a visit to the pub if you wish.

After the break we set off for the beach. This year the walk was easy as the tide was well out so there were no hazards. These tides are different each year so it is wise to wear suitable footwear. This year there was no trouble from the tide but it was very muddy. However, the beach was dry and clean which made it a delightful walk, but on turning off to Warblington Castle we found the mud again. The Castle is more or less a ruin leaving mainly the tower but it is an interesting story and a family do live in the lovely house. After some more mud we came to the old church with a very interesting story. The Church of St Thomas a' Becket and here we stop for a break to look at the beautiful cemetery, and are welcomed in the church, dog and all, with hot mince pies and coffee for which we are very grateful, and find it a lovely way to finish off the Festive Season.

If you are interested why not try it next year when I hope we shall still be doing it. I am sure you will find it a good way of saying "Thank you" to our Lord.
