PCC MATTERS

The PCC met on 11th November and 4th December and a number of issues relating to the fabric of the church and the churchyard were discussed: one tree in the churchyard is considered a potential danger and is to be removed, another will be monitored; a new lightning conductor is to be fitted; the ramp is to be coated with a non-slip material; and priority will be given in 2004 to the paving in the church grounds.

The PCC welcomed the news that Dr Feri Eshraghi of Morris Palmer, Chartered Accountants, has accepted appointment as our Independent Examiner with immediate effect.

It was agreed that £12,000 worth of our investments should be sold in order that the loans advanced by members of the congregation two years ago could be repaid. (In fact, two lenders have offered to extend the term of their loans.)

The main news at the meeting on 4th December was that the Vicarage was to be sold by the diocese because essential repairs to the roof alone would cost upwards of £60,000. The PCC, although saddened at the loss of this important feature of parish life, had to accept that the matter could be taken no further. Agents have been engaged to sell the Vicarage and locate a suitable alternative within the parish boundary.

Warm tribute was paid to John Millard, former Recorder and Claims Secretary, whose death had occurred on 27th November. He will be greatly missed, both in his official capacity and also as a well liked and longstanding member of St George's congregation.

The meeting ended with a long discussion about the use (or overuse) of incense, but it was agreed that the pattern established by Fr Malcolm should continue until the new incumbent arrives.

An extraordinary meeting was held on Sunday 14th December 2003 when the proposed budget for 2004 was approved.

And, yes, the gazebos (which have featured in PCC discussions for over a year) are still missing.

Jaye Warren,
PCC Secretary
