In November we had an open evening when we invited the Phoenix Singers to come and entertain us. The guests sat at small tables set out around the hall and on each table were floating candles which gave a lovely atmosphere. There were around fifteen men and women singers and they sang a lovely range of songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber shows, Les Misérables and many others. There were also solo performances and duets and their director sang the beautiful Vila from The Merry Widow. During the interval everyone enjoyed mince pies and mulled wine. The second half continued with many well known carols when the audience was invited to join in. It was a lovely evening and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and we hope we shall be seeing them again in the future. Instead of going out for a Christmas meal at a restaurant this year, we decided to organise one ourselves in the hall. Several members worked very hard and served a meal of cold meats and salad followed by a dessert and coffee. Afterwards various team games were played and there was much hilarity and, judging by members comments, it proved to be a very popular evening. Margaret Deal |
