OBITUARIES

John Millard

John was born in Portsmouth on 26 November 1931, the youngest of six children. He was evacuated to Eastleigh during the war, and remained in contact with the family all his life. He left school at 14, and joined a timber merchant as a clerk. At 17 he spent several months in the I.D.H. with T.B. He remained an office worker (unqualified accountant) for the rest of his working life.

He and Pat were married at St Mary's Church, Portsmouth in 1956, living at various times at Portchester, Horndean, then Waterlooville. He was very proud of his two sons - Stephen and David, and lately of his two grand-sons, Alex and Ben.

He was a staunch Christian all his life, and was very happy at St George's, and was pleased to do what he could for the Church. He died at Queen Alexandra Hospital on 27th November 2003. We send our sympathy and prayers to Pat and her family.

Joyce Mary Tonkin

Joyce was born in Portsmouth and lived there all her life. She lived in Belgravia Road, North End for over 50 years, moving to her flat in Purbrook in 1996. She lived with her parents and cared for them until they died.

She was dedicated to her job with the Co-Operative in Fratton Road, Portsmouth and worked in the main office. In later years she became an auditor and travelled to branches all over Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. She always enjoyed her work.

Joyce was devoted to her church and attended St James Church, Milton for most of her life. Church was one of the most important things in her life. She loved gardening and even after she moved to Purbrook her bay window was full of cuttings of African violets and carnations. She just loved flowers. Joyce will be sadly missed.
