Originally known as 'The Friday Club', The Georgians was formed some twelve years ago in the Waterlooville Area and Community Association premises near the Asda supermarket. In April 2001 the club moved to larger premises in St George's Hall and was renamed The Georgians after the name of the Hall. The purpose of the club is to encourage a friendly atmosphere for its elderly members, (of which there are about forty eight) to enjoy outings, and to be able to listen to interesting talks by well known speakers, to hear singing groups and have musical entertainment as well as watch stage plays and funny sketches. Games are occasionally played so a good selection of entertainment is always available. The club meets on three Friday afternoons in the month at 1.30.pm until approx. 4.pm, the fee for each session being £1.80 which includes tea and biscuits and occasionally cakes, so each member has an excellent afternoon's entertainment with refreshments at a very low cost. The Outings secretary arranges days out by coach to various places of interest; - the next outing being to Petworth House, Sussex, on April 18th. Others will follow. New members are always very welcome. Call the secretary, Martin Selwood on 023 9259 4250 for more details, at almost any time. Martin Selwood |
