Book Corner

When Lynn handed me these two books to review, I took them out of the envelope, reading the titles The Fox's Tale - Jesus is Born and The Cat's Tale - Jesus at the Wedding, I exhaled a disappointed Oh!

Firstly I looked at the book entitled The Fox's Tale - Jesus is Born, I thought this is going to be tough, reviewing in a new light, a story that has been told many times. But it's written by Nick Butterworth and Mick Inkpen so I knew the pictures would be delightful if nothing else!

So sitting comfortably I opened up the pages, this is the first paragraph I read:

"Sometimes, Grown-ups find it hard to believe in miracles. In Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen's delightful Animal Tales, special occasions in Jesus' life are seen through the eyes of some of God's smaller creatures, who have no trouble at all understanding exactly what's happening..."

Reading this helped me to think differently, I began to think about our two nephews and niece, would they like me to read them this story, no they are too smart! No I need to go to the next level, our seven great nephews and two great nieces who are younger, I can imagine myself reading it to the little ones as this would be new to them.

The Cat's Tale - Jesus at the Wedding, contained the same paragraph, I found this story slightly more exciting as you could feel the cat knew something different was going on and I wanted to follow him to find out more. He thinks he's dreamt it all, water doesn't become wine, but it must be true, the reflection of the moon in the water jug is pink!

The Fox's Tale - Jesus is Born and The Cat's Tale - Jesus at the Wedding, by Nick Butterworth & Mick Inkpen, published by Collins Picture Lions, priced £3.99

Fiona Ross

I know Fiona will not mind if I just quickly add a short Post Script here. In view of the (at the time of typing this) imminent release of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe I could not let the opportunity to commend this title to you pass by. The timeless adventure of Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter through the wardrobe and into the land of Narnia is set to enthral a new readership. Enjoy the film but do read the books. The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the second book in the Chronicles of Narnia series. The Chronicles start with The Magician's Nephew.

Happy Christmas and New Year reading everyone.
