What a fantastic evening to light up Waterlooville on Thursday 1st December. Despite the wind and the rain over 300 people crammed into St. George's Church for a pre-lighting up concert. Children from five local schools took part, together with the Boys Brigade Drummers and St. George's Church Band. The audience was entertained by choirs from St. Peter's RC Primary School, Purbrook Infants School, Queen's Inclosure Primary School and Waite End Primary School. Added to the choirs and the two bands were young people from Oaklands RC School VIth form who played and sang very professionally. After the concert, the Mayor and Drummers led the crowd to London Road Precinct where Father Christmas arrived on a veteran fire-engine, accompanied by music supplied by Angel Radio. Following a countdown, the lights were switched on by Father Christmas, the Mayor of Havant and two children representing all the performers - Abigail from Purbrook Infants School and Kate from St. Peter's. It was a great time - even if somewhat soggy! Fr Mike |
