Refurbishment of St George's Hall? The PCC met on Wednesday 18th July. Planned Giving is still giving cause for concern at £700 below budget with no likelihood of improvement over the second half of the year. The new Panasonic photocopier is now in place. Margaret Symonds told the committee about some very moving e-mails which had been received from the Canon Andrew White, priest at St George’s Church in Baghdad advising that his congregation of around 400 people have little clean water, very little bottled water and very few drugs. She asked the PCC if a retiring collection could be held on the 5th Sunday in July to send to Baghdad and this was agreed and Margaret was asked to inform the congregation during the service of what is going on in Baghdad as it is not publicised. The staging in Church was discussed and it was agreed to remove the present staging. The committee felt that mobile staging would be a great idea so it can be put up when needed and then stored but this is very expensive. The Music Festival Committee will discuss this further. Fr Mike would like a list of First Aiders with current certificates to be put up on the Noticeboard in Church and Jane volunteered to do this. Please let her know if you are a registered first aider and can show her your certificate. Waterlooville Business Association has asked if St George’s would like to put a stable scene outside the Church this Christmas. This is being investigated and will be discussed further at the next meeting. Tony asked for a frank discussion about the future of the hall as it will be 100 years old in 2013. The reason for raising this is the need to be able to plan repairs and refurbishments over the next few years without spending money needlessly. A committee will be set up which will include the Hall Committee, Churchwardens and other interested PCC members but it was decided to leave this until January when Fr Mike returns. The full minutes are displayed on the noticeboard at the back of Church. Jane Cook |
