Our AGM was held on 14th June 2007. The President’s report showed that we had achieved a very satisfactory year, from the interesting speakers invited by Anne Reynolds (secretary) to the amazing total of £600 raised through raffles and our annual cheese, wine plus auction evening. This money was for the year’s charity The Rocky Appeal. Anne Brown was re-elected as President and Anne Reynolds who was standing down was thanked for all the hard work she had done as secretary. The 28th June was our Presentation evening when we handed over to Mick Lyons a cheque for £600. The Rocky Appeal has now passed the £2,000,000 needed to get the new Cancer Laboratory up and running, so the appeal goes forward. The new aim is to set up three Laparoscopic Endoscopy theatres enabling surgeons to carry out more complex keyhole surgery for such things as cancer, colorectal, gynaecology and urology. In addition there could be video linkage to conference facilities for training purposes. The facilities are only available in a few specialist hospitals in the UK. Naturally the equipment is very expensive so £3,000,000 will need to be raised. A huge challenge for the fundraising team. We ended the year with a meal at The Red Lion Horndean. A relaxed evening with good food and friendship. Our next meeting is Thursday 13th September at 8.pm and the speaker will be from the Rosemary Foundation which is our chosen charity for the coming year. June Bradley |
