On 4th June, a fine summers evening St Georges men’s group visited Fareham & District Model Engineering Society at their Club Site, organised by John Williams & Tony Shepherd, Society members. We were treated to rides on 5 inch Gauge Steam & Electric Locomotives. Seeing them from arriving in the backs of cars, getting up steam, forming trains, riding around the track to shutting down. Everybody enjoyed numerous rides around the track. The locos ranged from small tank engines to large express engines. We also saw sailing on the boating pond, radio controlled boats and a yacht, most enjoying a spell of operating one or more of them with the hand held radio controls.
Cecil’s 84th birthday was celebrated, together with Society member Dennis Lucas (78) (see photo) in style with a cake and mugs of tea. Many questions were asked about the site and members engines & boats, with society members willingly answering, displaying their depth of knowledge. As the light faded the engines retired to the sheds, the boats to their mooring and we to The Fishermans Rest opposite Titchfield Abbey, to sample the Ale. John Williams |
