My book suggestions this month are all about one particularly much loved Saint. The reason for this is twofold, her relics are due to visit the United Kingdom from 16th September until 16th October 2009 and it fits in neatly with the summer theme of Saints that has been running at Saint George’s. On the 16th to the 17th September they were at Saint John’s Roman Catholic Cathedral, Portsmouth, attracting thousands of pilgrims. If you do not already know and would like to have a go at guessing her name, I set out below your clues. Try not to look at the Book titles first. 1). Born in Alençon, Normandy in 1873. Story of a Soul by John Clarke. Here, expressed with all of Thérèse’s original spontaneity and fervour, we rediscover the great themes of her spirituality; confidence and love, the “little way”, abandonment to God’s merciful love, and her “mission” in the Church and world today. A little Book of Thérèse of Lisieux edited by Don Mullan. The quotations gathered here, from Thérèse’s own writings, sayings and prayers provide a profound insight into the saint’s thinking thus offering the reader food for thought and substance for prayerful reflection. St Thérèse of Lisieux “I choose All” by Sr Teresa Margaret. In this classic account of St Thérèse’s spiritual teaching, Sr Teresa Margaret explores with us her life, her devotions, her teachings and her posthumous mission. Lisieux A Pilgrim’s Companion by David Baldwin. This companion for those who are specifically going to Lisieux on pilgrimage, takes you to the principal places of Thérèse, provides you with a coherent commentary and suggests some appropriate prayers and meditations at each place. Saint Thérèse of Lisieux by Silvia Vecchini. Illustrated children’s story about the life of St Thérèse. Get to know her ‘Little Way’, which is a simple way to learn to love Jesus and our neighbours.
