Fifty people attended the meeting at 11.15.am on Sunday 1st April 2001, chaired by Fr Malcolm. Booklets comprising reports for the year 2000, including the Treasurer's Report and a summary of the audited PCC accounts, the Vicar's report, Churchwardens' report and the various section reports had been made available earlier, and formed the basis of discussion at the ACM. The main financial concern was our quota payments. These have increased from £24,000 to £39,000 per annum in less than ten years. For the last six or seven years we have met the bill only by taking money from our investments. The PCC felt this could no longer continue and had written to the Deanery to warn of a possible £5,000 shortfall. Mr Rice-Oxley addressed the ACM on this matter and the consensus of the meeting was that St George's should maintain a balance between income and expenditure. This view would be expressed by some members of the PCC at a meeting with Deanery and Diocesan representatives at the Vicarage a few days after the ACM. Three members of the PCC were standing down and three nominations had been received. Mrs June Bradley, Mr Eric Bradshaw and Mrs Rosa Miller were therefore appointed. Fr Malcolm paid tribute to Fr Colin Towner and expressed great sorrow at his departure but happiness that he is to take up the priesthood again, but admitted that it was his own fault that we are losing him as it was he who had suggested it! The Chairman then went through the section reports, inviting questions. Under Social and Fundraising Mr Rice-Oxley expressed disappointment that attendance at events had declined and sought suggestions of what church members would support.
