The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

Have you heard of the Waterlooville and Purbrook Good Neighbours Group? We are a small group of about twenty volunteers who help people locally, which includes St George’s area. We do small tasks and errands such as shopping (either accompanied or unaccompanied), taking to medical appointments those for whom public transport is difficult, collecting pensions and prescriptions, and small DIY.

We had another successful year in 2010, having done just over 700 small tasks, most of which were shopping and taking people to medical appointments. But we also took people to visit relatives in hospital, and visited people who were stuck indoors alone most of the time and appreciated a friendly face to pop in for a cup of tea and a chat. We have had several new volunteers over the past few months, but would welcome anyone else who can spare one or two hours a month, or more if they so wish. Two of our regrets are that not enough people know about us, and that people are often reluctant to contact us even when they have heard of us. We would therefore be very grateful if you are aware of someone who could do with a little bit of neighbourly help to mention us to that person.

All our volunteers are CRB checked. We offer our time for free, but do ask for donations to cover our costs.
