On the 6th October we held our Coffee morning in aid of ‘Cakes for Brakes’ and raised £131. Many thanks to those who baked a cake or supported us on the day.

Our meeting in October was very well attended by our MU members and we were delighted to have with us several members of our congregation. Our speaker was St George’s Assistant Curate Fr Timon Singh who had come to talk to us about his visit to the Holy Land. Fr Timon had brought with him a large framed panoramic view of Jerusalem and we began the afternoon by lighting candles and placing them in front of the picture.  Fr Timon spoke of the warm welcome he and all of his fellow pilgrims had received at the guest houses where he had stayed. Even to the extent of returning in the early hours after a long trip to be greeted with a magnificent array of food! Nothing was too much trouble for his hosts. He spoke of the many olive trees that flourish there and are believed to be the same ones that would have been there in Jesus’ time. Fr Timon also spoke briefly about his childhood in India and how he had been taught many Bible stories. When he was visiting the Holy Land these stories became all the more poignant as he walked where Jesus had walked long ago. It was clearly apparent to us all that Fr Timon had been moved greatly by his experiences in the Holy Land, he said that although God’s presence is everywhere and indeed was with us that afternoon he had felt the presence of God very strongly whilst he was in the Holy Land.  He encouraged us all to try and visit the Holy Land ourselves one day. The meeting ended with the Grace.

Future meetings of the St George’s Mothers’ Union are always printed on the weekly bulletin sheet and in the Parish Magazine. We would welcome new members.
