Mrs F lost her husband recently and then suffered a stroke which left her unable to move from an armchair. She depends on carers. We are able to do her shopping, and make time to have a cup of tea with her. This may not sound much, but it makes a big difference to her.
Mrs G is very unsteady on her feet. We took her to QA, stayed with her as far as the consulting room, and took her back to her flat: “as the hospital is so huge I would have panicked and not found my way out if it weren't for you! You all do a marvellous job, thank you all as volunteers.”
You could be one of our helpers. We do not ask for a regular commitment, you choose what you want to do and when you want to do it. Some of our volunteers do 6 tasks a year, others do 50 – you choose. Expenses are paid, but the real reward is when someone says “thank you.”
