The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville
Mothers’ Union Tea Party
The Mothers’ Union held its annual tea party in the Church hall on Thursday 17th July. Approximately thirty people, including invited guests, plus one very sweet small dog enjoyed a buffet tea of savouries and cakes which had been provided by St George’s branch members. A quiz based on the last line of the first verse of well know hymns proved very popular, and there were stalls of MU merchandise, books, a ‘bring and buy’ table, a treasure hunt and a raffle. £123 was raised for the MU Worldwide, with a separate amount of £45 donated for St George’s MU Baghdad.

International Year of the Family 2014
This ten yearly event was celebrated by the MU Portsmouth Diocese by holding a Family Fun Day in the village of Swanmore. In spite of the forecast the day was fine and warm and the facilities in the village Hall and grounds were exceptionally good.
All the usual stalls were there including racing pigs and Bouncy Castle. Waterlooville branch joined with Emsworth in running a stall selling children’s toys, books and clothing. We were even given a beautiful pram. Sadly no buyer was found. Our huge excess stock is to be distributed between the Havant and Portsmouth Women’s Refuges and the Robert’s Centre. Fiona Ross, Carol Walker and Margaret attended on behalf of our branch.
Displays of MU Projects including the AFIA Holiday scheme and Wedding,! Think Church were on show in the large Hall.
The Lions Club provided and cooked all the hotdogs and burgers most generously and very professionally.
A total of approximately £1,300 was raised of which our stall made £95.30 and a good day was had by all who attended. Proceeds will be used for further work with families by the MU.

Mothers’ Union Outing
On Thursday 26th June St George's Mothers Union met in the community centre ready to embark on their outing to Bosham.
Our first port of call was the Bosham Inn for lunch; the renowned organising skills of the Mother Union which knows what everyone would like to eat and how much the final bill would be were not needed when Margaret confirmed our booking to the pub, but we knew better and suggested they try our forward planning, the food and dining room were excellent so the experience was a good one.
Back in our cars we headed into Bosham, it was our plan to end the day with a service in the parish church, but first my favourite thing shopping in the craft barn which is a lovely collection of craft shops, I bought a bracelet and desired the dolls house furniture.
At the given time we walked to the church, we took the inland path but I believe you can walk along the shoreline. Jennefer led our service, it was a beautiful end to a lovely day, after the service there was a chance to look at the church which has a vast history.
