The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

Walsingham Pilgrimage

Our Pilgrimage weekend to Walsingham this year was from Friday to Sunday 10th-12th April.

We set off from St George’s Church at 7.30am, picked up more Pilgrims en-route, and had our lunch break at Newmarket. The weather was sunny and warm and we had a good journey without any major holdups.

On Saturday morning the weather changed and those of us who walked to the Catholic Shrine got very wet in a sudden downpour. The weather cleared by the afternoon when we went by coach to Norwich. There was time for a quick look around the Cathedral and the City Centre with its large market.

The services at the Shrine were as amazing as ever, and the atmosphere peaceful and calming.

We managed to keep our candles alight during the Saturday evening procession around the grounds, always a challenge if there is a breeze, but “mislaid” some of our people who followed some “extras” all the way “home” to  the Catholic Church before they realised their mistake!

Our Servers were congratulated as being “the best” which of course they are!

It was, as usual a lovely and very spiritual weekend.

Parish Lunch

The Parish Lunch followed the APCM on Sunday 19th April. Over 50 people sat down in the Church Hall for a three course meal of pate, cottage pie & veg, and a selection of desserts.

Colin Monk gave Fr Mike a bag of various promotional goodies from the Bank of St George in Australia, which he and Rosemary had visited during their recent holiday; Colin’s nephew’s sister in law is the PR Manager for the Bank.
