Film Club - 7 Brides for 7 Brothers

A good “old style” musical complete with invisible orchestra and the most unlikely people bursting into song and dance - well anywhere! As this was part of the Waterlooville Music Festival it was shown on a big screen. We had choc ices and popcorn as well as interval refreshments.

Strawberry Sparkle

By kind invitation of David and Sue Hodgens, we held an open air Evensong followed by a feast of cheeses, pate, bread and fruits, followed by bowls of delicious strawberries and cream, in their beautiful garden at Edge O’ Beyond. And also of course “the sparkle” - a glass of champagne! There were soft drinks available too and we were blessed with a lovely warm sunny evening.

Fr Ray Chapman

Fr Ray Chapman’s 40th Anniversary of Ordained Ministry on 29th June was celebrated with a Holy Eucharist of Thanksgiving in  St George’s Church, followed by refreshments in the church hall.

Youth Club Meal

St George’s Youth Club invited members of the congregation to a meal on 2nd July in the Church Hall. On the menu was broccoli and mint soup, shepherd’s pie and veg, and gateaux. All was beautifully cooked and presented, and served to our tables by waiters and waitresses. Entertainment was provided by a local magician. A most enjoyable evening.

Songs of Praise, 10 July

This was the 53rd and last concert of the 2011 Waterlooville Music Festival.

After some neat Music Festival marketing - can there be anyone left in Hampshire who has no Waterlooville Music Festival bag or mug! - Fr Mike and Fr Timon explained and introduced the evening. The hymns voted the three most popular for Harvest, Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, plus extras, were sung by the audience, choir and soloists.

Terry Stevens was the Musical Director and Nigel Smith energetically dashed from organ loft to piano and back (several times!) as accompanist.

The winning hymns in the vote were: Harvest: We Plough the Fields and Scatter; Christmas: O Little Town of Bethlehem; Thanksgiving: Now thank we all our God; Easter (overall winner): Jesus Christ is risen today.
