The Havant Orchestras, which consist of the Havant Symphony Orchestra and the Havant Chamber Orchestra, have a reputation as being amongst the foremost amateur orchestral societies in the country, as reflected by the accolades they have received from the National Federation of Music Societies as one of the few ‘Truly Outstanding’ groups in the Southern Region and by the Performing Rights Society from whom they have received three ‘Awards for Excellence in Programming’.

The full orchestra is too large to be accommodated at the Waterlooville Music Festival venue, consequently this performance consists of the Orchestra’s strings section.

A rare opportunity to enjoy a performance by these hugely accomplished musicians, and at a very reasonable price.

Programme:

Elgar - Serenade for Strings

Purcell - Abdelazar Suite

Walton: Two Pieces from Henry V

Horovitz: Concertante (for Clarinet and Strings, featuring Rob Blanken on Clarinet)

Interval

Grieg: Two Elegiac Melodies

Warlock: Capriol Suite

Albinoni Adagio (for organ and Strings, featuring David Cain on organ)

Conductor: Ben Qureshi

Ben Qureshi is a vibrant and inspiring conductor, based in the South of England. Originally a trombonist, he first took up the baton at university, becoming Assistant Conductor and later Interim Conductor at Southampton University Symphony Orchestra. Ben has worked with many orchestras in the South of England, including Southampton Concert Orchestra, Petersfield Orchestra, Havant Chamber Orchestra, Winchester Chamber Orchestra and Per Piacere Chamber Orchestra, with a repertoire ranging from Mozart to Mahler. Ben has also worked with two orchestras in Paris, namely l'Orchestre de Sorbonne Université and l’Orchestre des Grandes Écoles, with whom he led several rehearsals. Fluent in English and French, he is comfortable conducting in both languages. Ben has studied primarily with Robin Browning, but has also taken lessons from Peter Stark, Matthew Hardy and Paul Ingram.
