Portsdown Christmas Tea Party
We were invited by Christchurch, Portsdown branch to their Christmas Tea Party on Tuesday 6th December.
We enjoyed warm sausage rolls and plates of sandwiches followed by bowls of trifle and a selection of cakes - plus mugs of tea.
Pompey Pluckers played for us and we joined in the singing.
As usual, a lovely afternoon.
Advent Miscellany
There were only 6 members present at this - we had been, unfortunately, seriously depleted by illness. After prayers and readings we made Christingles with oranges, red ribbon, pineapple pieces, red and green grapes and raisons. A fairly sticky process, but fun!
We finished with cake, chocolate biscuits, mince pies and cups of tea.

Portsmouth & Havant Deanery Advent Service
This was on Thursday 1st December. Margaret and I parked in a nearby side street and walked the short distance to Holy Spirit Church, Southsea. I had not been here before so took a little time to look around. The white walls stretch very high to a beautiful ceiling in square patterns. There is a very striking Christ figure - suspended, arms outstretched. The back area of the church has been made into ‘two-storey’ with a balcony section.
The Advent Service itself was very different to St George’s which was interesting - and I was unexpectedly asked to help with the collection together with another lady who also had had no prior instructions!
Afterwards there was coffee, tea and biscuits. I bought some Christmas and special occasion cards at Norma’s MU Merchandise stall.
