Each year, Bishop Christopher organises a Lent Appeal to help one local and one global good cause. Worshippers in the Portsmouth Diocese donate money and hold fundraising events to support these charities.
The main charity being supported by this year’s Lent Appeal is Christian Aid.
Christian Aid is a partnership of people, Churches, and local organisations committed to ending poverty worldwide. As part of this, they work directly with refugees, through local partnerships, and through linked organisations.
As well as supporting the work of Christian Aid overseas the appeal is for those charities and local groups in the Portsmouth Diocese area that have sought to help refugees, including those who have played a part in welcoming displaced people into their communities. Some of the local parishes have been active in helping refugees families to settle, and many will have heard about grass roots projects and initiatives.
Any local community group or charity active in this field can be nominated for a grant from the Lent Appeal this year. To make a nomination, please contact:

Please pray:
For the safety and flourishing of displaced persons
For charities and groups offering support
For peace and an end to oppression.
Envelopes will be available during Lent for donating to the Bishop’s Lent Appeal.
