Mothers’ Union

Mothers’ Union July meeting

Members at our July meeting were asked for suggestions of what they would do or change if they “Ruled the World”.

We split into small groups and then came together with our conclusions.

Members ideas included: sorting out strikes and the Health Service by cutting out wasteful spending; banning chemicals and sugar in soft drinks; making politicians more accountable for their actions; more help for the homeless. Someone suggested Asylum seekers should be allowed to work, and solar panels should be fitted to all new homes.

A wide range of ideas, but one we all agreed on was that there should be more kindness in our world.

Mary Sumner Day Service,
Wednesday 9th August

We were fortunate to have a warm sunny day this year for the Havant and Portsmouth Deaneries Mary Sumner Day Service at Christ Church, Portsdown.

Rev Andy Wilson took our service of Prayers, Readings and Hymns, which included my favourite "Just as I am, without one plea", but with a completely different tune and an unfamiliar 2nd verse.

Afterwards we all walked down to the Church Hall where there was a selection of cakes and mugs of tea for everyone. There was also a large table of Mothers' Union merchandise and cards, including this year's Christmas Cards, and a Raffle.

It was a most enjoyable afternoon and a total of £100 was raised for the M.U.  A.F.I.A. (Away from it All) Holidays.
