In order to assist our families, we provided simple crafts and colouring in the Church Hall throughout the summer holidays. Returning properly in September for formal Sunday school.
The term has started with positive news! We continue to expand! Three weeks ago we welcomed Connor with little Nancy. Welcome to you both!
Baby Polly was baptised on 29th September with many of her Sunday school friends and their Mothers present too. On the 13th October, Baby Lydia and Eleanor were also baptised into the Church Family. To complement these special occasions, the children prepared a model showing the four signs of Baptism, i.e. water, candle, white garment and oil. The children also made and decorated paper doves. (Examples of which are on our board in the hall).
It was planned that the Sunday school would join with the Dragons to be involved in a joint service on the 29th September. We did not have enough children this time to take a full part but, of course, we look forward to a joint venture in the not-too-distant future.
For Remembrance Sunday, the children once again prepared their own poppy wreaths and were allowed to lay them at the Memorial Arch. The delightful story ‘Poppy Day’ by Eliza Berison was read to them, explaining the importance of the day. We are very proud of our children, how quiet and still they were during the two-minute silence.
Just recently, there was further cause to rejoice as Bishop Jonathan confirmed Flora and Ellen, along with Flora’s Mum, Precious, Ryan and Shannon. The Sunday school gave each candidate a decorative wooden dove to remind them of the gift of the Holy Spirit.
We are encouraging the children to join in with The Lord’s Prayer and, when possible, have a practice before we come in to Church. It has been explained to the younger children that even if they are not sure of all the words, it is fine to say a Big AMEN at the end!
We write this on the second Sunday before Advent and next week the lesson will be based around Christ the King. The following Sunday, would you believe, is Advent Sunday, and the children will start rehearsing for their Nativity to take place this year on Sunday 22d December.
