As I am starting to write this on the penultimate day of the Paris Olympics, it seems appropriate to include two books on the life of Christian runner, Eric Liddell.
Eric Liddell: Complete Surrender by Julian Wilson
Julian Wilson’s vivid biography recounts not only the highs and lows of Liddell’s athletic career, including the controversial decision never to run on a Sunday, but also his life after the Olympics as a missionary in war torn China.

Eric Liddell: Finish The Race by John W. Keddie (ages 9 to 14)
Eric’s strong belief in keeping the Lord’s Day was challenged when the 100 metres race was scheduled for the Sunday. Eric’s strength of conviction and his subsequent win in the 400 metres have made him a hero and a role model for many young men and women. But his life was so much more than winning tapes and starter’s orders – his whole life was a race for God. REF 8798 (Christian Focus)(RRP £5.99)ASLAN £5.49

Suffering Wisely and Well: The Grief of Job and the Grace of God by Eric Ortland
Why does God allow suffering? The pain of suffering can be overwhelmingly mysterious, but the Bible does provide answers. Throughout the Scriptures, God allows trials in order to accomplish specific purposes in the lives of his people. Suffering Wisely and Well shows readers how to deepen their relationship with God during painful experiences in their own lives and how to comfort others who are hurting

The Quiet Path: Contemplative Practices for Daily Life by Andrew Rudd
Through a series of quiet walks, sometimes physical, but mostly through the landscapes of the heart, The Quiet Path cultivates contemplative practices that will lead to deeper awareness of the presence of God in all things. In a series of short reflections that blend prose and poetry, Andrew Rudd explores walking, noticing, writing, meeting, seeing, breathing, feeling, thinking, inhabiting and blessing as spiritual practices that are available to all.
