On Thursday August 2nd, 16 of the Tweenies met at church to board our Pegasus Coaches minibus to the Bombay Sapphire Gin distillery near Whitchurch.
Despite being a very hot day our minibus was very cool with air conditioning and tinted windows so we were able to enjoy our lunch on the way.
We arrived in good time for our 2pm tour, so we found the little cafe which is on a converted double decker bus.
After a short briefing we started our tour, the guide book was a clever bit of kit, it had a micro chip attached to it which when offered up to a numbered square on the whispering walls gave a commentary.
A lady met us outside the aroma room to show us where the gin is made, we could smell some 86% proof gin which was amazing. She told us that every drop of Bombay Sapphire Gin in the world was made here.
We went back to the aroma room to sniff out flavours that would make our complimentary cocktail at the end of the tour, I found it quite difficult so picked my cocktail from the menu, it was called strawberry with no cream, it was lush! I think the other girls enjoyed theirs too.
We went into the shop to purchase items to try making our cocktails again, I chose the necessary items to make The Laverstoke which is named after the distillery.
We had a safe journey home through the memories of rush hour traffic which seemed to pass us by in a haze of smashing cocktails, lovely company and new memories of a wonderful day out.
Thank you Jane Cook for organising it for us.
