On Thursday 30 August George’s Men met for a Ramble, taking a circular route starting and finishing at The George, Finchdean. Fr Charles and Dick Handy remained at the pub for the duration, undertaking the onerous task of checking out the quality of the beverages on offer, whilst the remaining eight undertook an up-hill climb across the fields above Finchdean village to then take in fine views across open countryside and down to Idsworth Church (St Hubert’s) which can just be made out to the left of David Cavey in the photograph above. Later the route followed the railway track of the Portsmouth / Waterloo line which led back to the pub where all enjoyed a meal in the restaurant, with excellent food and good company.
Special thanks to David Cavey for organising the meal, and to David Palmer for navigating the route and for walking it twice, having checked it out the day before.
